Canadian Natural Resources is dealing with a second COVID-19 outbreak at their Horizon site north of Fort McMurray.
In an email sent to Mix News, the oil company says 12 individuals have contracted the virus since September 30.
Three of these individuals have already recovered.
It’s unclear if any of the individuals live in Fort McMurray as the company flies in employees from outside of the region.
CNRL and Alberta Health Services have been conducting contact tracing over the past couple of weeks to help stop the spread of the virus.
“Canadian Natural has in place significant precautionary measures to limit the spread of COVID-19 which meet or exceed the guidance of public health officials at AHS, including a stringent response protocol when staff are showing symptoms of illness and mandatory mask-wearing at our sites since April 29, 2020,” the company said in a statement.
This is the second outbreak declared at Horizon after five individuals contracted COVID-19 back in May.
