We’re going back to Eternia, children of the 80’s! The second attempt at a live-action adaptation of the Saturday morning cartoon staple is only months away from releasing in theatres. I wonder if they’ll reference Gwildor and the cosmic tones that were entirely invented for the last one. It has been nearly 40 years since the Dolph Lundgren version, so this new iteration certainly looks nothing like the previous installment – expect boatloads of CGI. The cast is one of the most exciting aspects of this 2026 release – save for Jared Leto’s Skeletor who is being downplayed in marketing so far. Guess they don’t want the Tron: Ares treatment from fans..
It’s mixed feelings for what we’ve seen so far in this trailer, but I do have appreciation for what they did in the announcement for the trailer just yesterday (below). Travis Knight is directing, and he’s done some solid kid-friendly releases before, including Paranorman, Missing Link, and the best live-action Transformers movie since the first live-action Transformers movie: Bumblebee. We don’t have much idea of the plot just yet, but I did spot Beastman crunching car roofs on Earth, so we are likely to see some portal/wormhole travel action at some point.
Are you interested in this new experiment in a legacy franchise? Or should we just stick to original stuff (and Kevin Smith’s adaptation)?
