PARKLAND COUNTY, Alta. — Parkland RCMP are asking for the public’s help after a trailer loaded with sport wheelchairs was stolen from a high school in the Stony Plain area.
Police say the theft was reported on Nov. 24. The trailer contained 15 sport wheelchairs owned by the Northern Lights Wheelchair Basketball Society, a group that runs school programs introducing students to adaptive sports. The trailer is a white 2025 Royal Cargo enclosed unit with the society’s decal on the side.
Cst. Brody Dyson, a community policing officer with Parkland RCMP, said the loss hits a youth program rather than a competitive team. He said the trailer is worth about $500 and the wheelchairs inside are valued at roughly $15,000.
Dyson said the investigation is still in its early stages. Officers are trying to identify anyone who may have seen the trailer and are gathering surveillance footage. He said the items are unique, so police hope members of the public will watch for anything that resembles the trailer or its contents.
Parkland County sits immediately west of Edmonton and surrounds the cities of Spruce Grove and Stony Plain as part of the Tri-Municipal Region.
Anyone with information is asked to contact Parkland RCMP at 825-220-2000 or call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
