Week two of back-to-school in Fort Mac and already… a PD Day? Seriously? Hunter just started grade three, and tomorrow he’s got a day off. Come on! I swear September feels like the warm-up month for school – a couple of days in, then boom, a long weekend, a PD day, and suddenly you’re back at home again figuring out childcare.
And now hanging over all of this is the talk of an Alberta-wide teachers strike. First week of October, over 51,000 teachers could walk off the job if no deal gets made. That number alone makes my head spin.
It’s not just about missed classes—it’s about parents scrambling. Childcare is already hard to find here, and a lot of people are probably going to be “working from home” with kids bouncing around in the background. I’m really hoping they can reach a deal before it comes to that, for the sake of the kids, the teachers, and honestly, the sanity of parents everywhere.
For now, we’re just rolling into week two, trying to stay in routine… even if routine seems to come with random days off.
