The RMWB is lowering water bills for those under the boil water advisory.
Wood Buffalo council approved the reduction at their meeting on Tuesday, which is expected to cost the municipality $2.4 million.
Right now, the advisory remains in effect for all parts of Fort McMurray. This includes Parsons Creek, Timberlea, Thickwood, Abasand, Beacon Hill, Waterways, Gregoire, MacKenzie Park, Saline Creek, and Saprae Creek.
“People are still showering and doing other things with the water, so the reduction administration came forward with takes that into account.”
Crews are currently working on flushing, disinfecting, and testing water in the Water Treatment Plant and the 375 km potable water distribution system.
Scott says they have been able to reduce the expected time needed for this work.
“Originally, there was a 120 day target date announced, that has been shortened by 60 days.”
He adds he’s optimistic the work could be done a bit sooner.
In the meantime, must boil their water before consuming. This includes for drinking, cooking, making baby formula, making ice, washing fruits or vegetables, brushing teeth, and for pets.
People can still use water for general use and bathing as normal.
