EDMONTON — Today Albertans will learn the Province’s spending and saving plans for the coming fiscal year. Budget 2026 is set to drop later this afternoon.
As the spring sitting of the Alberta legislature gets underway, the provincial government says its agenda will focus on economic growth, public safety and reducing regulatory barriers while introducing a series of new bills tied to investment, housing, policing and immigration.

Government House Leader Joseph Schow said the session will focus on supporting families, jobs and safety amid economic uncertainty.
“Albertans deserve to know their government is focused on them, their families, jobs, safety and well-being,” Schow said in a statement.
The government also plans legislation designed to give Alberta greater control over immigration, including licensing international recruiters and immigration consultants and increasing oversight of employers. Officials say the measures are intended to protect newcomers while ensuring immigration aligns with economic needs and pressures on housing and public services.
Additional legislation is expected to focus on streamlining approvals for major projects, which the government says will reduce delays and improve investor confidence. The province also plans to introduce measures allowing municipalities to fast-track low-risk development permits as demand for housing continues to grow.
Tourism legislation is also planned for the session. The government says proposed changes would increase transparency around destination marketing fees by ensuring they remain
