Cst. James and OIC WB
FORT MCMURRAY — A Wood Buffalo RCMP officer has been recognized for long service after more than two decades with the force.
Const. Sandra James received the RCMP Long Service Award during a gathering at the Wood Buffalo detachment on Feb. 24. Chief Supt. Mark Hancock, officer in charge of Wood Buffalo RCMP, presented the award marking James’ years of service.
The RCMP Long Service Medal was first created in 1934 and is awarded to members who reach service milestones and maintain exemplary conduct. The program was expanded in 1981 to include civilian members and again in 2002 to include public service employees.
James has completed more than 22 years of service. She began her career in 2003 with postings in Saskatchewan, including Hanley and La Loche, before transferring to Alberta. She later served in Cold Lake in 2008 and Sylvan Lake in 2013 before moving to Fort McMurray in 2021.
She currently works with the Wood Buffalo detachment’s patrol support team.
“It is the commitment and dedication of Cst. Sandra James that represents the very best of the Alberta RCMP. We are honoured to present this award to her,” said operations officer Insp. Troy Switzer.
