FORT McMURRAY — A 26-year-old Fort McMurray man is facing several criminal charges, including impaired operation causing death, following a fatal multi-vehicle collision earlier this year at the intersection of Highway 63 and Airport Road.
Wood Buffalo RCMP say Willie Janvier has been charged after municipal traffic services officers, working with an Alberta RCMP forensic collision reconstructionist, completed their investigation into the Jan. 7 crash.
Police say Janvier is charged with impaired operation causing death, dangerous operation causing death, dangerous operation causing bodily harm, impaired operation causing bodily harm and forcible confinement.
RCMP say Janvier was remanded into custody and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on March 23.
The charges stem from a fatal collision that happened Jan. 7 at the busy Highway 63 and Airport Road intersection in Fort McMurray. Police have previously described the incident as a serious multi-vehicle crash that prompted an extensive investigation involving traffic services and collision reconstruction specialists.
RCMP have not released additional details about the circumstances of the collision or the identity of the person who died.
The investigation has now concluded, police say, with charges laid as the matter moves before the court.
