Wood Buffalo RCMP lay charges in fatal pedestrian collision south of Fort McMurray
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — Charges have been laid following a fatal pedestrian collision in Chipewyan Prairie First Nation last fall, Wood Buffalo RCMP say.
Police said the investigation into the Nov. 14, 2025 collision on Nokohoo Drive, south of Fort McMurray, has been completed with the assistance of the Wood Buffalo General Investigation Section, RCMP Forensic Identification Services, Alberta RCMP Forensic Collision Reconstruction and Alberta RCMP Digital Forensic Services.
A 16-year-old male from Chipewyan Prairie First Nation is facing multiple charges, including dangerous operation of a motor vehicle causing death, criminal negligence causing death and failure to stop after an accident resulting in death.
The youth, who cannot be identified under the Youth Criminal Justice Act, is also charged with operating a motor vehicle without a licence and driving an uninsured vehicle.
He has been released on an undertaking and is scheduled to appear in Alberta Court of Justice in Fort McMurray on March 18, 2026.
A 39-year-old woman from Chipewyan Prairie First Nation is also charged with criminal negligence causing death. Police said she cannot be named until an Information is sworn.
