FORT McMURRAY — The Athabasca Tribal Council has announced former NHL player and coach Ted Nolan and his sons Brandon and Jordan Nolan as keynote speakers for its upcoming career fair in April.
The 3 Nolans will speak at the ATC Career Fair April 15 and 16 at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre. The event is open to the public and focuses on supporting First Nations and Indigenous people pursuing education, employment and long-term career goals.
Organizers say the keynote will centre on perseverance, adaptability and turning challenges into opportunities, drawing on the family’s experiences in professional sport, education, business and public service.
Ted Nolan, a member of Garden River First Nation, is a former NHL player and award-winning coach. He is also an author and founder of a foundation focused on education and community support.
Brandon Nolan transitioned from professional hockey to academic and business pursuits after an early career ending injury. Jordan Nolan is a three time Stanley Cup champion who later returned to school to pursue a career in public service.
Chief Allan Adam, president of the Athabasca Tribal Council and chief of the Athabasca Chipewyan First Nation, said the Nolans’ story sends a powerful message.
“The 3 Nolans demonstrate that setbacks can become turning points rather than barriers. Their story sends an important message to youth and job seekers that perseverance, adaptability, and belief in yourself can open doors to success,” Adam said.
The career fair brings together high school students, job seekers, employers, educators and training organizations. Admission is free.
