PETA wants the band to change their name
This is a real thing. PETA actually asked Alice in Chains to change their name to “Betty in Chains” for a month to help draw attention to an elephant named Betty. She is 56 years old and has spent basically her whole life in circus chains. It is a sad situation and PETA is trying to get her retired to a real sanctuary.
The name change idea is… yeah. “Betty in Chains” does not hit the same. Sounds like a little shop in a small town or something your aunt runs from her garage. But the reason behind it is pretty serious.

Betty was taken from Thailand when she was a baby and has been used in circuses for more than
fifty years. She is forced to do around 300 shows a year. An elephant expert who looked at her said she could suffer a fatal collapse if she is not taken out of the circus soon. She barely moves, her trunk drags, and she looks completely checked out. It is rough.
PETA sent a letter to the band asking if they would switch their social media name to “Betty in Chains” for one month. They say it would bring a ton of attention to the situation and maybe push the circus to retire her. No idea if the band will actually do it or not. Fans online are mixed. Some think it is a cool way to help. Others are like please do not touch that name, ever.
Either way the whole point is to help Betty get out of the circus and into a real sanctuary where she can actually live in peace for once. If you want to learn more PETA has all the info on their site.
