FORT McMURRAY — Arts Council Wood Buffalo has opened applications for its 2026 Artist in Residence Program and Suncor Indigenous Artist in Residence Program, offering two professional artists several weeks of dedicated time to create new work in the region.
The residencies will run three to four weeks next year, with dates finalized alongside selected artists. Each residency is designed to support focused artistic development while encouraging deeper community connection.
Executive director Liana Wheeldon said the programs bring new creative voices into Wood Buffalo and help strengthen the local arts community through mentorship, collaboration and public engagement.
Resident artists will produce a new body of work for a final public showcase and lead up to two community workshops or engagement sessions. The council says it is seeking applicants who have a community centred approach and a clear plan for their workshops.
The programs are open to artists across Canada, and local artists are encouraged to apply. Guidelines and the application portal are available on the ACWB website. Applications close Jan. 19 at 11:59 p.m. Top of Form
