RCMP Recruitment event, 2025
FORT McMURRAY — Wood Buffalo RCMP say a women-focused recruiting event held this fall drew strong interest and left several participants feeling closer to a policing career.
The September presentation at the local detachment brought in about 20 aspiring applicants aged 16 to 45. They heard from more than 15 female RCMP members from units that included forensic identification, specialized investigations, general investigation, drug enforcement and community policing.
Const. Amber Farrell from the Alberta RCMP recruiting unit led an overview of the application process, while members shared stories about Depot training, life in the field and why they chose the RCMP. The day wrapped up with the RCMP’s new Police Fitness Assessment.
Police say the response was overwhelmingly positive. According to the detachment, “some of those who attended indicated they felt closer to a career with the RCMP after the presentation.”
Cpl. Tracy Hare, who organized the event, says months of planning went into designing a session tailored to women interested in policing.
“The response from the community was wonderful,” she said. “The feedback from the participants was also positive, which encourages us to consider offering this opportunity again in the future.”
