Keyano Huskies Vball
FORT McMURRAY — Keyano College’s men’s volleyball team has climbed to the top of the Canadian Collegiate Athletic Association’s national rankings.
The Huskies moved into first place after straight-sets wins at home over the SAIT Trojans and Lethbridge Polytechnic Kodiaks at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre. The team had been ranked second and third in earlier polls.
Keyano is 6-0 and holds a four-point lead in the Alberta Colleges Athletic Conference’s North Division. The Huskies are one of only two undefeated teams left in the conference and have won 18 of the 23 sets they have played this season. Their five dropped sets rank among the fewest in the league.
Rookie outside hitter Arthur Silveira has been a key part of the team’s surge. He leads the ACAC in kills and kills per set and sits among the conference leaders in digs and service aces. Setter Kai Rosnau is ranked third in assists per set.
The Huskies now head on the road for four straight matches to close out the first semester. Their next games are this weekend against the Medicine Hat Rattlers and the Briercrest College Clippers.
