October 1, 2025 Mayoral Debate
FORT McMURRAY — The Fort McMurray Chamber of Commerce mayoralty forum is now available online following a debate between incumbent Mayor Sandy Bowman and challenger Zulkifl Mujahid that focused largely on business issues affecting the region.
The event was held Wednesday, October 1, at the Doug Barnes Cabin in Thickwood, drawing a crowd of about 70 to 80 people. It was moderated by Jenna Hamilton-Giles and covered a range of topics, including downtown revitalization and concerns over fly-in-fly-out workers.
“This election cycle is pivotal for Fort McMurray, especially for the economic pulse of our region,” said the Chamber of Commerce in a statement posted to social media. “From infrastructure and public services to economic development, the next City Council and Mayor will make decisions that ripple through our everyday lives.”
The full one-hour and fifteen-minute video of the forum is available on YouTube at youtube.com/watch?v=PuqEoWSuE8c.
Bowman and Mujahid are set to meet again on October 8 at Vista Ridge during a forum hosted by the Saprae Creek Residents Association for Ward 3 and mayoral candidates.
