Netflix caught all kinds of eyes when it was announced that not only would they be adapting the beloved Polish book series The Witcher (popularized by the game series from CD Projekt Red), but that the titular character, Geralt, would be played by heartthrob Henry Cavill. I was in from start. It helps that Cavill has been described by other people working on the show as a walking Witcher encyclopedia. And for a time it was good.
But in the shake up of announcing his return to the DCEU, Cavill quit The Witcher tv show in favour of being the Man of Steel once more. As we know: that did not go as planned. The DC movie slate was all but wiped off entirely in favour of a new continuity by James Gunn and Peter Safran. However, Liam Hemsworth had already been announced as the replacement on The Witcher, and Cavill has since turn his sights to Warhammer adaptations – leaving the Witcher world and the Superman tights behind.
Fan reception to the Liam news was lukewarm at best. Will this first look at Hemsworth as Geralt of Rivia change hearts and minds? What do you think?
