A home in the Wood Buffalo area suffered severe damage after a fire broke out on Monday evening, August 11.
The Fort McMurray Fire Department was called shortly after 6:30 p.m. following reports of smoke coming from a house on Wilson Drive. Upon arrival, firefighters found flames and heavy smoke coming from the eaves and roof of the residence.
Multiple units responded to the scene, including two pumpers, a ladder truck, paramedics, and RCMP officers. Fire crews worked for several hours to control and fully extinguish the blaze.
Fire investigators have confirmed that smoke alarms were working properly and alerted the residents in time. The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
Thankfully, no injuries were reported, but sadly a dog perished in the fire. The home sustained significant damage from fire, smoke, and water.
