I assume that a great many people clicked onto the thumbnail of this trailer assuming it would be for a new movie. I know I did. After all: Johnny Depp is heavily involved, Ridley Scott has his name on it, that title treatment screams movie, AND Depp is dressed up in make-up and costume within the trailer itself. Easy mistake! Plus, San Diego Comic Con always sees a pile of major movie trailers and announcements, so it wouldn’t be out of place if it were on the big screen.
It turns out “Hyde” is going to be a limited graphic novel event, with Johnny Depp developing the titular character. In this iteration of the classic Stevenson novel, Mr. Hyde has gotten the better of Dr. Jekyll and is now the only personality – hell bent on perfecting the serum to make even more Mr. Hydes in the streets of London. Sounds like it would make for a fun movie, but instead look forward to a 4-part release with the initial book arriving at some point before the end of the year.
Give it 5 years and I bet this WILL become a movie…
