RMWB offers support for residents considering council run in 2025 election
FORT McMURRAY, AB. — The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is offering a range of supports to residents who are thinking about running for municipal council in the 2025 election.
The nomination period is now open and closes at noon on Sept. 22. To help potential candidates prepare, the Municipality has released a candidate guide, nomination package, and other resources outlining the steps involved in launching a campaign.
A drop-in information session will take place on July 30 at the Jubilee Centre in Fort McMurray. Municipal staff will be on hand to answer questions about eligibility, nomination procedures, campaign rules, and the responsibilities of council members.
Those living in rural areas can access printed guides and book virtual appointments with the Elections team through their local municipal offices. One-on-one support is also available for anyone needing more detailed guidance.
Council members in Wood Buffalo are responsible for key decisions related to infrastructure, emergency services, recreation, and community development.
