Deadline approaching to register online for municipal election in Fort McMurray
FORT McMURRAY, Alta. — Residents looking to save time at the polls for the upcoming municipal election are being encouraged to register to vote online before the Aug. 15 deadline.
Under Alberta’s updated election rules, all voters must now be included on a permanent Register of Electors in order to cast a ballot in the Oct. 20 municipal election. Those who do not register online by the deadline will still be able to vote but must complete the full registration process at the polls on election day.
Voters can check their registration status or sign up online at voterlink.ab.ca. The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo will submit its voter data to the province after Aug. 15, in accordance with new requirements under the Local Authorities Elections Act.
Eligible voters must also bring valid identification to the polls so election officials can verify their information against the register.
More details about the local election are available at rmwb.ca/elections, or by contacting the Pulse line at 780-743-7000.
