Municipality offering heavy item collection

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is gearing up to help residents get rid of unwanted items.

Between June 25 and July 11, the municipality is offering curbside collection of large heavy items. Residents who want to take advantage of the heavy item pickup must register online with the municipality before June 18.

Acceptable items include:

– Sofas/couches

– Loveseats/chairs

– Mattresses/box springs (fees apply)

– Exercise equipment such as treadmills and ellipticals

– Dressers

– Stoves

– Dishwashers

– Washers

– Dryers

– Large televisions (24-inch tube or 27 inches and larger)

– Refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and water coolers (fees apply)

– Kitchen and dining room tables

– Office and computer desks

The municipality is also offering drop-off locations for household items such as large furniture, appliances, renovation materials, and electronic waste throughout June.

Residents may drop off items from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at these locations and dates:

– June 8 – Downtown – MacDonald Island parking lot

– June 15 – Saprae Creek Estates – Vista Ridge parking lot

– June 22 – Anzac – Municipal Office (237 Stony Mountain Road)

– June 22 – Gregoire Lake Estates – Municipal lift station parking lot

– June 29 – Thickwood – Abraham Landing

The heavy item pickup and Big Bin events are free, but fees will apply for certain items, including CFC-containing refrigerators, freezers, air conditioners, and water coolers ($46 per item), as well as mattresses and box springs ($28 per item). Photo ID and proof of address are required before disposing of these items, and the fees will be added to your monthly utility bill.
