RMWB to begin hazard reduction burns

This week, Regional Emergency Services (RES) will be starting their wildfire hazard reduction burns.

Crews will be conducting controlled burns in the Thickwood, Parson’s Creek North Access area, and the Wood Buffalo subdivision. If time and conditions allow, controlled burns may be conducted in other areas within Fort McMurray.

Signs will be set up near the work to alert residents of the activity. People living close to the controlled burns are advised to keep their windows and doors closed to prevent smoke from entering their homes.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo advises that controlled burns are led by trained staff from RES and only happen when conditions are safe to do so. The RMWB says that during the burning activity smoke and controlled fire may be visible and that it is not a cause for concern.

The spring-time work is a keys part of helping reduce wildfire risk in the region.
