Red Deer man facing firearms charges in Fort Chipewyan

A Red Deer man is facing several firearms charges after being arrested in Fort Chipewyan.

During a patrol on Sunday, police spotted an ATV being driven dangerously along Delta Road and conducted a stop.

RCMP arrested the driver and conducted a search which uncovered a loaded 9-millimeter handgun with hollow-point ammunition.

19-year-old Keanu Redbear has been charged with over half a dozen offenses including:

  • Unsafe storage of firearms
  • Possession of weapon for dangerous purpose
  • Possession of a firearm/prohibited weapon when knowing possession unauthorized
  • Possession of firearm/weapon/device/ammunition in motor vehicle
    • Possession of restricted firearm/prohibited weapon with ammo without licence/registration
  • Assault on Police Officer with Weapon/Causing Bodily Harm
  • Resists/obstruct peace officer.

Redbear was also charged with driving carelessly and driving an uninsured motor vehicle on a highway under the Traffic Safety Act. Redbear was taken before a justice of the peace and released from custody with the next court date set for Mar. 7, 2024, at the Alberta Court of Justice in Fort Chipewyan.
