Municipality activates WMZ 1 and 2 as crews continue snow removal

As the region continues to dig out from yesterday’s snowfall, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB)  is changing its Winter Maintenance Zone (WMZ) plans for the week.

Beginning Wednesday, March 6th, and continuing through to Friday, March 8th, the Municipality is activating subzones 1 and 2. That means on-street parking restrictions will be in effect for these zones on their designated winter maintenance day.

RMWB crews are also continuing their work on road clearing across Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

Greg Bennett with the RMWB says that after a snow event, there is a standard practice for road maintenance. The municipality’s first priority is to clear primary routes first, followed by secondary routes, high-volume intersections, and turning lanes. Once completed, crews begin working on tertiary routes.

It wasn’t just snowfall that kept municipal employees busy yesterday. A water main in Timberlea broke on Monday morning causing water to flood a portion of Millenium Drive at the Fireweed Crescent intersection.
