The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is reducing the daytime weight limit on the roads to no more than 5,000 kilograms to preserve the routes during the current warm spell. Only light passenger vehicles will be allowed to travel, starting today from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m.

Drivers are advised only to use the roads for essential travel.

Vehicles over 5,000 kg will not be allowed to on the route during these times.

This restriction will continue until colder temperatures return. The RMWB expects to increase the limit on the winter road to Fort Chipewyan to 45,00 kg on Saturday. The La Loche limit is expected to increase to 27,500 kg as well.

Drivers are reminded to be cautious, as posted signage may not be in place for every hazard along the route, and to always be aware of crews and equipment working on the road. Speeding on the winter road is extremely dangerous, especially through the delta section of the route.
