FMPSD responds to Premier’s proposed gender and parental rights policy

Fort McMurray Public School Division (FMPSD) is addressing the Premier’s recent statements regarding gender, parental rights, and diversity education.

In a media release, FMPSD stated that they understand there may be concerns or questions following the Premier’s recent announcement, but nothing has changed in our operations or policies as a result of the Premier’s recent announcement.

“We will continue to follow current legislation and Division Policy,” reads the FMPSD release.

“It’s important to note that any proposed changes to legislation require a formal process to become law, a process that may extend into the late fall of this year.”

FMPSD stressed that until any legislative changes occur, its schools will adhere to the existing policies that champion a diverse, inclusive, and safe educational environment for all students.

“These policies are not just guidelines but a reflection of our collective values as a school community, values that cherish and uphold the dignity of every individual,” stated the release.
