TSB continuing investigation into helicopter crash near Fort Chipewyan

Canada’s Transportation Safety Board (TSB) is continuing its investigation into a helicopter crash near Fort Chipewyan on Monday.

According to the TSB, a helicopter operated by Hanley Heli Service was conducting aerial survey work in the western Lake Athabasca area.

The TSB says there was an abrupt change in weather that brought low visibility to the area. The Bell 206L “Long Ranger” helicopter collided with the frozen surface of Lake Athabasca around 3:20 p.m. on February 12.

A search was initiated by Canada’s Joint Rescue Centre along with the RCMP. They located the crash site and found the pilot and sole occupant of the aircraft deceased at the scene.
