Alberta RCMP officer charged after National Security investigation

An Alberta RCMP officer is facing charges after allegedly using police records to “aid a foreign actor”.

Constable Eli Ndatuje has been charged with Breach of Trust, Unauthorized Use of a Computer, and Breach of Trust in Respect to Safeguarded Information.

The RCMP stressed the information accessed by the Constable was not of a top-secret nature.

Upon learning of the security breach, the RCMP said they have implemented measures to monitor, mitigate, and manage any further unauthorized disclosures and ensure the maintenance of public safety as the investigation unfolded.

The RCMP says it threats to the security of Canadians very seriously and wants to reassure the public that their primary focus is the safety and protection of the public at all times.

Ndatuje is scheduled to make his first appearance at the Calgary Provincial Court on March 11th.
