With the recent snowfall, the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RMWB) is reactivating Winter Maintenance Zones.

The RMWB says it is activating Subzones 1 and 2 for maintenance the week of January 8th – 12th, meaning on-street parking restrictions will be in effect. This activation is to ensure scheduled winter maintenance keeps up with the currently forecasted snowfall.

Subzones 3 and 4 are relaxed for the week, and on-street parking restrictions are not in effect. Vehicles may continue to park on the street. Subzones 3 and 4 are expected to be activated from January 15th to 19th.

Winter Maintenance Zones are activated on a bi-weekly basis.

The RMWB is also adding Romar Street and the remaining section of Rogers Crescent to the Winter Maintenance Zone program as part of Subzone 1, in response to resident feedback and bus route changes.

During winter maintenance season, the Municipality is reminding residents to:

  • Remove all curb mats, basketball nets and other personal items from the curb.
  • Follow on-street parking restrictions.
  • Clear sidewalks next to your home within 48 hours after a snowfall.
  • Park as close as possible to the windrow (snowbank) on the side of your street.
  • Do not shovel snow back onto the street.
  • Keep a safe distance from equipment.

For the weeks when your subzone is active, on-street parking restrictions are in effect from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. only on your one designated day for maintenance. Residents can locate their Subzone and designated day, as well as sign up for weekly email reminders by visiting: Find Your Zone – Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (rmwb.ca).
