Police investigate stabbing in downtown Fort McMurray

The Wood Buffalo RCMP is currently investigating a stabbing incident in downtown Fort McMurray.

On Sunday at around 1:00 p.m., police, fire, and EMS responded to a report of a male with stab wounds in the 9900 block of MacDonald Avenue.

Witnesses say they observed an individual assaulting a man and fleeing the scene on foot before the RCMP arrived.

The 51-year-old victim was taken to the Northern Lights Hospital with serious injuries.

Wood Buffalo RCMP, Police Dog Services, General Investigation Services, Police and Crisis Team, and Municipal Traffic Services contained the area and located the suspect a short time later. He was arrested without incident. 

Tristan Abbott, a 36-year-old resident of Fort McMurray, is now facing charges of aggravated assault and obstructing a police officer. Abbott remains in custody, and a court appearance is scheduled for January 8th.
