An Alberta Judge is being promoted to the Supreme Court of Canada.

Justice Mary Moreau, current Chief Justice of the Alberta Court of King’s Bench will soon be sitting on Canada’s Top Court. Moreau will become the first Francophone from Western Canada to sit on the bench of the Supreme Court.

Retired Judge and prominent Fort McMurrayite, Adam Germain, says this is an outstanding appointment.

“Justice Moreau excels at legal diplomacy and judicial ethics. She has a very sharp legal mind,” says Germain.

“This move is an outstanding appointment, and Moreau is a wonderful choice.”

Justice Moreau will be filling the vacancy left by Russell Brown who retired in June. With Moreau’s appointment, women will outnumber men on the bench of the top court for the first time in Canada’s history.
