ASIRT investigation concludes officer justified in 2019 Fort Chipewyan shooting

The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team is concluding its investigation into an officer-involved shooting in Fort Chipewyan.

The inquiry details a non-fatal shooting of an individual following a disturbance at the Fort Chipewyan Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) detachment in June of 2019.

The investigation states the officer was acting properly in the discharge of their duties, and there is no evidence of any unlawful or unreasonable conduct.

The ASIRT report concludes the use of force by the officer was “proportionate, necessary, and reasonable in all the circumstances”.
