The Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) is investigating the actions of Wood Buffalo RCMP in a recent shooting incident.

Around 4:05 p.m. on September 27th, Police responded to multiple 9-1-1 calls concerning a man with a gun in the Beaconwood Place area. RCMP says a 33-year-old male approached a woman at her residence and shot her, causing serious injuries. The man fired several more shots at nearby homes and vehicles before fleeing in a vehicle.

Police quickly arrived and contained the area. Shortly after, a confrontation took place between the RCMP and the man, resulting in officers firing their guns at him, according to ASIRT.

“Officers removed the individual from his vehicle and began first aid before paramedics took over. The man died at the scene,” stated the ASIRT in its release.

ASIRT’s investigation focuses on the officer’s use of force, which is standard procedure when incidents involving potential serious injuries or fatalities linked to police action occur.
