The Government of Alberta is announcing five telephone town hall meetings to discuss the proposed Alberta Pension Plan.

Albertans are invited to join the Alberta Pension Plan Engagement Panel, which will be led by former provincial treasurer Jim Dinning.

The panel will gather residents’ feedback on the suggestions, possibilities, and potential challenges of a provincial pension plan.

Public engagement has been ongoing since Sept. 21, 2023, with an online survey following the release of the LifeWorks report.

The engagement panel will now host telephone town hall meetings for residents to tune in to, regardless of where they live.

The dates and times for the meetings are:

  • Northern Alberta – Monday, Oct. 16, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Southern Alberta – Tuesday, Oct. 24, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Calgary and surrounding area – Thursday, Nov. 9, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Edmonton and surrounding area – Thursday, Nov. 16, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.
  • Central Alberta – Wednesday, Nov. 22, 6:30 p.m. – 8 p.m.

Albertans can learn more and tune into the meetings through the Alberta Pension Plan website.

The panel will then submit a report based on the engagement and it would have to be approved by referendum before it is possibly implemented.
