Wood Buffalo RCMP seek to reunite stolen bikes with owners

Wood Buffalo RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in reuniting owners with stolen property.

Wood Buffalo RCMP General Duty and Crime Reduction Unit says they have recovered over 30 bicycles including frames, wheels, and other accessories, which are believed to have been stolen in the region.

Police say they have compared the bikes to reports of missing and stolen bikes, but to date, have only been able to reunite one bicycle with the rightful owner.

If you have had your bike go missing, or it has been stolen, you are encouraged to report the theft to the police by calling the Wood Buffalo RCMP Detachment at 780-788-4040.

RCMP is also offering tips to prevent theft, as well as assisting in property recovery:

  • Use a quality lock and lock the frame to a secure stand or rack
  • Take removable parts with you such as wheels, lights, or the seat
  • If purchasing a bike, take several photos, keep the original sales receipt, and make a detailed description of the bike including make, model, and serial number

Wood Buffalo RCMP and the RMWB have also partnered with Bike Index to help bike theft victims recover their bikes.

You can still create an account and mark your bike as stolen if you did not register before the incident.
