RCMP looking to identify suspects in OHV fleeing

Wood Buffalo RCMP is seeking the public’s assistance in identifying suspects who fled from police on off-highway vehicles (OHVs).

On July 8, 2023, at approximately 5:40 pm, three suspects were seen driving three OHVs southbound on Gregoire Drive.

None of the drivers were seen wearing helmets, and when RCMP attempted a traffic stop, the drivers fled into a nearby community.

The same three OHVs were seen around 6:55 pm at the intersection of King Street and Franklin Avenue.

Police attempted to approach the three OHVs, but the suspects fled through a red light, with one driver almost losing control of the vehicle.

RCMP wants to remind citizens that OHVs are not allowed to be driven on area highways in Fort McMurray, and drivers caught doing so can face a number of charges under the Traffic Safety Act.

Wood Buffalo Municipal Traffic Services is continuing to investigate the incident. Police have obtained photos of two of the three suspects, and are seeking assistance in identifying them.
