$150K in drugs and cash seized in Fort McMurray bust

Alberta Law Enforcement Response Teams (ALERT) has charged a Fort McMurray man in suspected drug trafficking in northern Alberta.

Fort McMurray’s ALERT team made the seizure on July 5, 2023, following a search of two homes in the community.

Search warrants were executed at a home in Westview Heights, as well as an apartment in the Lower Townsite.

ALERT seized 1.6 kilograms of cocaine, 4.9 kilograms of a suspected cocaine buffing agent, 675 tablets of Percocet, $5,850 in cash, as well as an imitation firearm.

The investigation began in March 2023 after receiving information regarding drug trafficking in the community.

“People involved in drug trafficking are constantly finding creative or unique ways to be discreet when moving product,” says Staff Sgt. Mark Wait, ALERT Fort McMurray.

“In this instance, our suspect was seen hiding cocaine in bushes near where he parked his vehicle. This creates a major risk to the community, including for children, pets and any wildlife that may find these illegal substances.”

37-year-old, Hassan Kourani, is facing trafficking and possession charges. Kourani has been released and will appear in court on August 22, 2023.

Members of the public who suspect drug or gang activity, are encouraged to call local police. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS(8477).
