ACWB Artist in Residence to host workshops for the community

The Arts Council of Wood Buffalo (ACWB) is welcoming two visiting artists to Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo.

Louise Casemore is the Artist in Residence, and Danielle Piper is Suncor’s Indigenous Artist.

“The Artist in Residence and the Suncor Indigenous Artist Program are immensely important to our region”, said ACWB Executive Director, Liana Wheeldon.

“Guest artists have the chance to connect through collaboration and creation while being inspired by our incredible region.”

Wheeldon says local artists are given the opportunity to enhance their skills and gain exposure to a variety of art forms.

Both resident artists will work with and mentor local artists. Piper is prioritizing Indigenous Peoples in the rural communities. She will deliver a workshop in Anzac and another workshop for Fort Chipewyan community evacuees. A showcase of her work will take place from June 28 – 29, 2023 in the Keyano Theatre & Arts Centre gallery.

Playwright and theatre artist Louise Casemore will be working on the completion of a play and will instruct two workshops in Fort McMurray on different aspects of writing and theatre arts. Casemore will be showcasing her work on June 29, 2023.
