Fort Chipewyan Fire Update: Town Hall being hosted for evacuees today

Fort Chipewyan Community members are invited to a town hall to discuss the fire situation.

The event is being held at the Syncrude Sport and Wellness Centre starting at 2:00 p.m.

The RMWB is providing transportation from hotels, and there will be children’s activities available.

The Rocky River Fire is still burning out of control but has not moved closer to the community. It is currently over 52,000 hectares in size.

The RMWB says they are moving ahead with planning the re-entry process; however it is not possible to provide a date for when people will be brought back to Fort Chipewyan.

There are currently over 230 personnel working on the wildfire including firefighters, structural protection specialists, contractors, and they are also being supported by multiple helicopters and heavy equipment.

The Alberta Wildfire weather forecast is reporting a slight chance of rain in the community today.
