A powerful thunderstorm unleashed a heavy downpour of rain in Fort McMurray.

The torrent caused streets to flood, and the surge of water overwhelmed storm sewers, leading to the eruption of manhole covers.

In the Thickwood area, several streets experienced flooding, prompting some residents to take to the newly formed waterways using their kayaks.

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo (RWMB) responded quickly to reports of flooding, closing some streets and implementing measures to control the water.

Harvard News Media reached out to the RMWB for further information but has yet to receive a response.

Some residents posted on social media that their vehicles were inundated with water, and incidents of basement flooding were also reported.
