June 2 – Fort Chipewyan update

The Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo is reporting over eight-hundred people have been safely evacuated from Fort Chipewyan.

Anyone remaining in Fort Chip can request a seat on an airplane by calling The Pulse line between 7:00 a.m. and 7:00 p.m. Anyone evacuating by boat needs to call The Pulse line during those hours before leaving.

Alberta Wildfire is leading the fight with air and ground suppression efforts. A significant number of resources arrived in Fort Chipewyan today on a Hercules plane.

There are currently 60 firefighters working to contain the wildfire, along with multiple aircraft and several pieces of heavy equipment.

The RM says Re-entry will only happen when it is safe to do so.

Meanwhile the community is coming together to support evacuees. Agencies, businesses, and individuals are providing everything from clothing to free movie admissions and more.

You can find a list of resources and activities available on the RMWB website.
