Elections Alberta releases candidate list; five running in Fort McMurray-Wood Buffalo

The official roster of candidates for the upcoming 2023 Alberta General Election has been released by Elections Alberta.

The nomination period concluded on Thursday at 2:00 p.m.

In the Fort McMurray – Lac La Biche riding, the incumbent Brian Jean will be running as the UCP candidate, facing competition from Callan Hobbs of the NDP and an independent candidate named K.D.M. Kevin Johnston.

The Fort McMurray – Wood Buffalo riding has five candidates vying for the job of MLA.

Tany Yao, the incumbent, is running for the UCP after Zulkifl Mujahid was disqualified from the UCP Ticket. However, Mujahid has still entered the race as an independent.

Tanika Chaisson is representing the NDP, while Councilor Funky Banjoko, temporarily stepping away from Municipal council duties, is also running as an independent. Brad Friessen is carrying the banner for the Alberta Party.

The election is scheduled for May 29th.
