No injuries after Fort McMurray house fire Friday evening

The Fort McMurray Fire Department responded to a house fire on Biggs Avenue Friday evening.

Shortly after 5:30 p.m., crews arrived to the scene and had the fire under control after an hour.

The scene was turned over to Fire Prevention investigators, there were no reports of injuries, but significant damages were reported to the home.

Neighbour Patrick Boudreau said he was in his garage when he heard a loud pop.

“I smelled smoke and turned the corner and could see the flames. It spread super fast. The wind blew it towards my house, five more minutes and I could have lost my house,” said Boudreau.

“I’m so glad everyone got out safe. I made sure the two kids and the older gentleman got out. They were my number one concern.”

Boudreau said he had to call 911 twice, and speculates the central dispatch sent them to the wrong side of Biggs Avenue.
