Fire ban in effect for most of Wood Buffalo

Alberta Wildfire is issuing a fire ban for the Wood Buffalo region and no fires of any kind are allowed.

All fire permits are suspended or cancelled and no new fire permits will be issued.

The fire ban applies to fires throughout the region, including:

  • Any outdoor fire, including
  • Open-air fires
  • Recreational fires contained within a portable or fixed fire pit
  • Charcoal barbeques
  • Fireworks

If emergency fire response is required, the person responsible for the fire can be charged the full firefighting costs.

The fire ban includes the urban service area of Fort McMurray and areas outside, including:

  • Fort McKay
  • Draper
  • Saprae Creek
  • Gregoire Lake Estates
  • Anzac
  • Janvier
  • Conklin

The area north of Lake Athabasca, including Fort Chipewyan remains under a fire advisory.
