Backyard fire leads to damages in Wood Buffalo Estates

Regional Emergency Services (RES) responded to a fire in the Wood Buffalo Estates area Friday night.

Crews arrived at a residence near Wilson and Williams Drive around 9:35 p.m.

According to RES, the fire started in a backyard fire pit before spreading to a shed and other structures.

Firefighters were able to set up a water supply and directly attack the fire and were on the scene until around midnight.

Fire Chief Jody Butz says no injuries were reported, and the cost of the damages is still under investigation.

Butz is reminding residents that 60 per cent of fires are human-caused, and most of the RMWB is under a fire restriction.
