Alberta Wildfire conducting controlled burns near Gregoire Lake

While the RMWB’s regional emergency services are conducting controlled burns in Fort McMurray this week, the province is also working on fire hazard reduction.

Alberta Wildfire is starting its prescribed burns on Fort McMurray 468 First Nation lands near Gregoire Lake.

The plan is to burn approximately 21 hectares starting today and continuing until Friday.

Smoke will be visible; however, it will not have a significant impact on Fort McMurray or nearby communities. It can be expected intermittently from approximately 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Alberta Wildfire assures residents the burns are carefully supervised and will only occur when conditions are safe.
