RRC Readies for Fort McMurray Marathon

The Fort McMurray Marathon is returning this year with Inter Pipeline as a presenting Sponsor.

The annual 42.2-kilometre race is set to hit the trails in September, and the Regional Recreation Corporation is already preparing.

For over a decade, runners from Fort McMurray Wood Buffalo and beyond have participated in the annual marathon.

This year marks the return of the “Run for a Reason” program, which allows local registered charitable organizations to sign up as fundraising beneficiaries and marathon participants can raise funds for their favourite cause.

The 2023 Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon will take place on Sunday, September 24 at MacDonald Island Park.

Participants will have the opportunity to register in the CNOOC full marathon and the Servus Credit Union half marathon, along with a variety of shorter distances.

“Inter Pipeline is proud to be the presenting partner for the Fort McMurray Marathon after being a longstanding supporter of the event,” said Breanne Oliver, Vice President, People & Stakeholder Relations.

“We are so excited to welcome Inter Pipeline as the presenting partner on the marathon,” said Graig Walsh, Regional Recreation Corporation of Wood Buffalo Chief Executive Officer.

“The Inter Pipeline Fort McMurray Marathon has evolved from the original half marathon format to a full marathon event with a charitable component, while still maintaining the fun, family-friendly atmosphere where individual achievements are pursued and celebrated.”

The races are scheduled for September 24th.

Early-bird registration for athletes opens up on May 2nd.

Charitable organizations must register by May 31st.
