New Support for Youth Struggling with Mental Health and Addiction

Alberta Health Services (AHS) is expanding access to addiction and mental health support for youth in the RMWB.

AHS wants to achieve this through a new Child and Youth Multidisciplinary Intensive Treatment Service (MITS) team.

MITS is a community-based team who focuses on providing support for youth, ages five to 18, who are experiencing complex mental illness or substance use disorders.

The team is focused on managing the youth’s addiction or mental health needs with the goal of reducing potential relapse or readmission to the hospital.

They will provide group or individual therapy, counseling, case management, medication management, developmental support, as well as physical therapy.

The team also supports those in the hospital to help in their discharge and transition back home.

MITS can be accessed by referral from an inpatient pediatric mental health unit or at Wood Buffalo Addiction and Mental Health Services.
