Lethbridge-West UCP Candidate Resigns Following Controversial Video

The UCP Candidate for Lethbridge-West is resigning following her comments from a controversial video.

Torry Tanner says during the nomination process she made a video that spoke to her commitment to protecting children.

“However, it’s clear that my choice of words have distracted not only from the issue I was trying to discuss, but are being used by my political opponents to hurt our chances of winning across the province,” said Tanner.

In the 51-second video, which was posted to her YouTube channel on March 8, 2023, she suggests Alberta teachers are exposing school children, even those in Kindergarten, to pornographic materials.

Tanner continues that Alberta teachers are helping children secretly change their gender identity without parental consent or knowledge. She goes on to call on parents to get involved to keep their children safe from what she calls, “outrageously inappropriate behavior.”

Premier Danielle Smith says she will be working with the local constituency and the Party to appoint a replacement.
