Banjoko to Run as Independent in Provincial Election

A familiar name is stepping up to run as an independent candidate in the May 29th provincial election.

Funky Banjoko is announcing her bid to represent Fort McMurray – Wood Buffalo in the Alberta legislature.

First elected as a Councillor for Ward 1 (Fort McMurray) for the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo in October 2021, Banjoko holds a Bachelor of Arts Degree and has previously worked in supply-chain management.

“I am running for the benefit of the region; the people are my focus” says Banjoko.

“I am committed to perform [sic] and I have a record in the short time that I have been on Council.”

Currently Banjoko represents Council on the Wood Buffalo Regional Library Board of Directors, the Community Investment Program Advisory Committee, the Wood Buffalo Downtown Revitalization Advisory Committee, and the Vehicle for Hire Committee.

In a media release, Banjoko says she will not be actively campaigning until the election is officially called, but she will make her manifestos available online.

Banjoko says the focus of her campaign will be on healthcare, commerce, education, and supporting local businesses.
